Large Diabolo Reflector Lamp
Jacques Biny/Luminalite
France 1950
Jacques Biny for Luminalite, extremely rare desk lamp in gilded tubular metal, perforated diabolo reflector, pale yellow and white lacquer. The base is made of a single curved tube and joined at the top by a plate. The double ball joint allows orientation and pivoting of the reflector.
On his return to Paris in 1950, Jacques Biny designed very avant-garde lights. First published by Omnialux, then by Kobis and Lorence, he created his own publishing house in 1953: Luminalite. He will meet with success during the 60s but most of these first creations had a very limited distribution.
An archive photo shows this lamp in a version with a paper diabolo reflector, the luminaire that I propose to you was not known in this version until now.
